The Levenhuk New Skyline PRO MAK 102/1300 SQ1 is a classic compact catadioptric telescope. It works perfectly for city observations and astronomy trips to the countryside. Thanks to its long-focus design, it delivers high contrast, and the dark eyepiece background helps reveal planetary details even under light-polluted city skies. The Moon, planets, and bright stars remain clearly visible even from the center of a big city. The closed-tube design keeps dust and moisture out. Therefore, a night under the open sky will never damage your telescope.

What objects can you study with this telescope?

We recommend starting with the Moon. At a maximum magnification of 130x using the 10mm eyepiece, the Moon is no longer just a glowing disk. You will see it in amazing detail. You can explore mountain ranges like the Apennines, the Alps, and the Carpathians. You will spot craters such as Copernicus, Tycho, and Plato along with the Ptolemaeus, Alphonsus, and Arzachel trio. You can even observe lunar seas like the Ocean of Storms, the Sea of Tranquility, and the Sea of Serenity. Wide views are not all you get. You will also see fine surface features such as terraces, central peaks, rays, and rilles.

The planets of the Solar System will also surprise you. On Jupiter’s disk, two to four cloud bands appear. Nearby, you can spot the Galilean moons: Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Saturn’s rings are clearly separated from the planet. You can also catch Mercury and Venus in the eyepiece. They look like tiny spheres or little crescents depending on their current phase. During oppositions, the reddish dot of Mars turns orange and reveals its polar cap.

Away from city lights, you can see the famous Orion Nebula and the Ring Nebula M57 in Lyra. You will also see the stunning Pleiades and Beehive star clusters along with the magnificent globular cluster in Hercules. Nearby galaxies, including Andromeda, appear as mysterious hazy clouds. Thanks to the high-contrast optics, the telescope perfectly reveals hundreds of double and multiple star systems.

Equatorial mount SQ1

The optical tube sits on an SQ1 equatorial mount with manual control. Before using it, you need to set it up. Choose the correct latitude and point the right ascension axis at Polaris. After that, you are ready to observe. The mount compensates for Earth’s daily rotation. This means you can easily keep your target in view by turning just one knob.
