A research-grade microscope for studying specimens in reflected light using fluorescence and in transmitted light using brightfield. The installation of optional accessories allows for darkfield, phase contrast, differential interference contrast, and polarization microscopy. The coded revolving nosepiece transmits information on the selected objective to the control system. Based on this data, the microscope automatically adjusts the user-defined illumination brightness for each objective. The intelligent lighting control system further enhances operator comfort and eliminates the need for manual adjustment when changing magnification. Fluorescence microscopy is based on the ability of some substances to glow when exposed to light of a certain part of the spectrum. The reflected light illuminator contains three filter cubes that provide optimal conditions for exciting fluorescence in the commonly used fluorochromes DAPI, FITC, and TRITC as well as their spectral analogs. The microscope is equipped with a 1.7MP camera with a USB 3.0 interface. The camera connects to a computer and displays the image on its screen. The software complements the system with analysis and documentation functions. The microscope is used in medical institutions and laboratories, research organizations, forensic centers, industrial and environmental organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and educational institutions.
Digital camera
The MAGUS CLM50 digital camera is designed for use in fluorescence and darkfield microscopy techniques. The large 9x9µm pixels provide high light sensitivity, which is especially important when working with weak fluorescence signals. The camera is equipped with a 1.7MP sensor producing a realistic image in 1600x1100px. Video is recorded at 33fps at maximum resolution. Videos are smooth, with soft and subtle transitions between frames. The movement of the sample is displayed in real time with no delays. The camera provides convenient work with moving objects and is suitable for conducting demonstrations in a classroom. The camera is equipped with a USB 3.0 interface. The data transfer rate is 10 times faster than that of USB 2.0 cameras. The high-speed camera is recommended for professional laboratories, research, or university training.
Microscope head
Trinocular head with infinity-corrected optics. The eyepiece tubes are raised and lowered, changing their position by rotating around the axis. The user can adjust the eyepiece height to suit their individual stature. The digital camera is mounted in the trinocular tube. Fixed beam splitting ratio: 50/50. The vertical tube has a magnification of 0.55x. The included C-mount adapter does not change the image scale (1x). Therefore, the image is transmitted to the camera sensor with a magnification of 0.55x. When calculating the field of view and on-screen magnification for each objective, use a total factor of 0.55x. The basic configuration includes 10x/22mm eyepieces with diopter adjustment and high eyepoint for working with glasses.
Revolving nosepiece
The coded revolver for five objectives is oriented toward the interior: The user can see the objective inserted into the optical path, and the space above the stage is free. Above the nosepiece is a slot with a plug for installing an analyzer, compensators, or differential interference contrast sliders.
Plan semi-apochromatic fluorescence objectives
The objective lenses are made of fluorite, a mineral with a high degree of transparency over a wide wavelength spectrum, without autofluorescence and birefringence, with corrected secondary spectrum. The high numerical aperture enhances the objective's resolving power. The image in the eyepieces and through the digital camera is cleaner, has more contrast, and is brighter than with regular plan achromatic objectives. Plan semi-apochromatic objectives have chromatic aberrations that are corrected for four colors, spherical aberration corrected for three colors, and field curvature corrected for 90% of the field of view diameter. The 4x objective is designed to work with specimens with or without a coverslip. The 10x, 20x, 40x, and 100x objectives are used to observe specimens with a 0.17mm coverslip. The 100x objective supports oil immersion. All of the objectives are designed for the infinity-corrected tube length. The parfocal distance is 60mm.
Maintaining a comfortable brightness level in transmitted light when changing magnifications
The objectives of different magnifications transmit light with different levels of intensity, and so each time you change objectives, the brightness of the light must be adjusted. Switching from a higher to a lower magnification objective causes eye fatigue due to a sharp increase in the brightness of the eyepiece image. The MAGUS Lum D470L, which is equipped with intelligent brightness control, solves this problem. The optimal level of light brightness is automatically switched for each objective, thereby eliminating unexpected changes in brightness when changing magnification. This feature optimizes the workflow, reduces eye fatigue, and improves comfort during extended use.
Focusing mechanism
With a large number of specimens, the operator constantly uses the fine focusing knob for performing their work. To reduce wrist strain, the microscope uses a responsive mechanism with smooth travel. The fine focusing knob has special grooves for your fingers. Fine focus adjustment is effortless, which reduces hand strain during long work sessions. The microscope features low-position coaxial coarse and fine focusing knobs. The researcher can place their hands on the table and take a comfortable position in front of the microscope. The coarse focus lock knob helps you quickly adjust the microscope after changing the object of study. The knob is located on the left side of the microscope on the same axis as the focusing mechanism. The ring on the right side adjusts the tension of the coarse focusing travel. The user adjusts the comfortable tension for work.
Stage
The stage does not have an X-axis rack and pinion, which improves convenience. The belt-driven mechanism allows for smooth movement of the specimen. The specimen holder is secured with two screws and can be easily removed during manual scanning. The long stage control handle ensures user comfort: The hand rests on the table with no strain.
Epi-fluorescence illuminator
Inside the attachment body, there is a 4-position rotating turret with three narrowband fluorescence filters for the fluorochromes DAPI, FITC, and TRITC as well as their spectral analogs. The filter is selected by rotating the ring. One position of the turret corresponds to the brightfield observations. A field diaphragm and an aperture diaphragm enable Köhler illumination in reflected light. The excitation light sources are LEDs. The LEDs instantly reach the brightness that is set by the user. They do not heat up during prolonged use and can switch off quickly, if necessary. This makes it easy to switch from the brightfield technique to fluorescence and back again. The LED lifetime is 50,000 hours. It is recommended to choose LED-based fluorescence for higher education as it is the safest option and requires minimal maintenance.
Condenser
The Abbe condenser is height-adjustable and can be centered. Mounting type: dovetail. The condenser ring adjusts the iris aperture diaphragm. The condenser body has an aperture marking, and the ring has an indicator marker. To achieve a high-contrast image, it is recommended to set the aperture diaphragm slightly below the numerical aperture of the objective in use by using the markings and indicator as a guide.
Transmitted light source
The transmitted light illuminator uses a 3W LED. The microscope illuminator has the function of adjusting the color temperature in the range of 3000K to 7000K. The user selects a comfortable color temperature and can easily switch it with one button whenever specimen examination requires an illumination adjustment. The LED lifetime is 50,000 hours.
Köhler illumination in transmitted light
The light source is located at the rear of the microscope base and is directed to the collector via a mirror. The image contrast is controlled by the condenser aperture diaphragm, while the illuminated field area is adjusted by the field diaphragm. Köhler illumination provides even illumination of the field of view, reduces stray light, and allows the objective to achieve its maximum resolution.
Status LCD screen
The LCD screen on the base of the microscope displays the objective magnification, brightness and color temperature of the light source, and operating mode (“sleep” and “eco”). The functions are controlled using the LCD screen and a multifunctional knob. The user adjusts the brightness and color temperature of the illumination, locks the brightness adjustment, and then sets the sleep mode and auto-off timers.
Ergonomic design
Physical discomfort causes fatigue and reduces productivity. The ergonomic design of the microscope plays an important role in everyday scientific research. MAGUS Lum D470L provides user comfort during operation. The user can adjust the viewing height by changing the position of the eyepiece tubes, reducing strain on the back and neck. Focusing knobs are located at the bottom of the body. The user does not need to strain their hands. Thanks to the smooth movement of the mechanism, the user can effortlessly focus on the object. The microscope is operated with minimal hand movement, since the long stage control handle and fine focusing knob are located in the same working area. The microscope is equipped with a special carrying handle. The design for the hidden placement of the power adapter and power cord improves the workplace esthetic and safety of carrying the microscope as well as simplifies storage of the device.
Accessories
There is a line of accessories designed specifically for this microscope. Optional objectives provide additional magnification. Eyepieces extend the magnification range of the microscope. Optional eyepieces help you maximize the potential of the objective that you use most often. The optional attachments for phase contrast, darkfield, polarization, and DIC expand the range of microscopy techniques, allowing you to study specimens that are invisible in brightfield. A calibration slide is used to measure objects and can be combined with the eyepiece with a scale or with the camera software.
