The optical elements are made of BK-7 glass and coated with aluminum achieving a reflectivity of 92–95%. Image focus is easily adjusted using the dual-speed 2' rack-and-pinion focuser (with 1.25' adapter included). For optimal performance within its operating range of −5°C to +35°C allow 1.5–3 hours for the large primary mirror to thermally acclimate to nighttime conditions before beginning your observation session.
